Comments on a “Goodall’s Poker Patience” set . . .

One of the neatest little Goodall card-game sets in my rather small collection of boxed sets is a “Goodall’s Poker Patience” set.  It consists of a box, two small packs of cards, a scoring block (with pencil), and a rule booklet, as well as one additional card (Four of Hearts) stamped, “This Card Does Not Belong to the Pack,” in upper-case letters.

The title page of the booklet is printed in red and black, and the booklet is undated. However, the inside front-cover lists (among other titles) Five Hundred, and the title page mentions both London and Birmingham, so the booklet is probably 1908, 1909, 1910, 1911, or 1912.  The Bodleian Catalog lists a copy dated 1908, as well as a [1909] copy and a revised (1912) copy, so that pretty much confirms the range of dates just stated.

I hope in a future post to state more information as to the wording on the title page!
